Read This Before Buying A New Cell Phone
Surprisingly, cellular phones or smart phones are only as functional as their service provider allows them to be. Sprint, Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile, and Cingular each provide a whole host of plans for on-the-go customers in America and Canada. Some cell phones without plans are sold, allowing the customer to postpone choosing a service until a later time. Mobile phones can play games, can check email and provide instant messaging services. They can even play movies or MP3s, just as a PDA can. Unlike a PDA, however there seems to price cap on most cell phones. Some high end PDAs can be priced between $500.00-$800.00! Compared to some high tech cell phones? Free. Cost is surely an issue, particularly if you’re not looking to use your portable device for heavy business. Are Cell Phones Really Necessary? Some might ask if cell phones are really necessary. We all understand the “phone” part of it, but do people really need to be playing on the phone constantly at every hour of the day? What about cell phones in school? Doesn’t it detract from learning? What about cell phones and driving? Shouldn’t it be illegal given how many traffic incidents are caused by cell phone chat? And how about cell phones for soldiers? Do I really need a cell phone if I’m overseas fighting for my life and carrying a big gun? Cell phones are only as practical as we need them to be. The primary function of a cell phone is a form of emergency contact. However, consider some other options a Smart Phone, (or an advanced cellular phone) can offer you. Smart phones are smart and they do so much more than regular “cell phones” are supposed to do. This is partially because many smart phones are actually PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants) with mobile phone features. The good thing about Smart Phones is that they work similarly to PCs; you can install software on them from manufacturers, service providers and even third parties. In the last 20 years, nobody’s ever accused a personal computer of being pointless. Cell Phones and Global Positioning TechnologySeveral cell phones and PDA’s are already capable of offering the global positioning system, which allows anyone at anytime to find a map and location of their surroundings through wireless technology. In the coming years not only will more mobile phones including this feature, they might also combine the technology with accelerometer positioning, for providing underground or indoor mapping. Conceptually, this could help people find friends and identify strangers based on records and maps at any location. This would be a tremendous help to people who use cell phones in school, cell phones and driving and cell phones for soldiers. Regardless of the phone you choose, remember that cell phones in school and cell phones and driving don’t mix well. While games are fun, you’re not going to be spending a lot of time playing games on a 2- inch screen. The primary uses of a mobile phone is for wireless activity (check your email and browse the web) taking emergency pictures or recording video footage, listening to MP3s, talking to friends and of course, disrupting business meetings on purpose with the Number #1 downloaded ring tune of Super Mario Bros. |
