Would you like an MP3 player for the holidays?  Who wouldn't?  But choosing one MP3 player from the other might be the hardest part about it.  (Well, next to shelling out the money of course)  Familiarize yourself with 10 words and what they mean for prospective shoppers.

1. Apple iPod

iPod is certainly the secret word in this shopping mystery.  IPods are the number one selling portable media players in the world and encompass popular models like the iPod Mini, iPodPhoto, iPod Shuffle and iPod Nano.  Other terminology includes iPod cases (different color cases to decorate your device), iPod accessories and iPod video (iPod videos are media players that have the capacity to play and record video footage just as easily as audio)

2.Creative Zen

Creative is one of Apple's competitors, which produces many MP3 and multimedia players called Creative Zen.  There are 9 major models of Zen including the Zen Vision: M, which costs $299.99, a standard average of the company's prices.

3. Dell

Dell also produces portable media players including the Dell DJ Ditty and Creative Vision series.  Prices are economic, as some limited feature MP3 players can sell for as low as $74.00.

4. DRM (Digital Rights Management)

The DRM is an encompassing term referring to technology used to enforce policies for controlling access to digital data.  Other terms associated with this subject matter might be the MPAA (Motion Picture Association Of America) and the RIAA (Recording Industry Association Of America) who are looking into ways to stop illegal MP3 and MPEG downloads through file sharing.

5. HP iPod

The Hewlet Packard iPod was the fourth generation iPod, a dual effort by Apple and Hewlett Packard to create a user-friendly digital media player.  While it wasn't a total bomb, the product wasn't hugely successful either. The iPod software review was mixed despite a unique iPod tattoo feature.

There are still ways to legally download MP3s.  Available at such websites as ITMS (iTunes Music Store) and iPod Lounge, or even MP3.com, are downloads for as low as .05 cents per download.  Additionally, MP3.com often does feature totally free downloads from emerging artists.

MP3 player ratings or MP3 player comparison are consumer reports on the quality and value of an MP3 player just purchased.  While most customers will be happy with the technology of a product, many continue to complain about high prices, bulky designs and low battery life.

10. Ultra Mobile PCs

Ultra Mobile PCs are the next innovation in portable handheld devices.  If manufacturers can lower prices of UMPCs to around $500.00 in the next few years, this will also change the prices of MP3 players and Pocket PCs significantly.  MP3 players while they do offer video image playback and recording capabilities are not comparable to a full PC.  We'll have to wait and see...
