Carry Your Computer In Your Pocket
|

Is that a laptop computer in your pocket or...? Indeed, It might be difficult to fit an entire laptop system into your pocket. Yet today many people need more than just a calculator or personal organizer when they are at the job, on the road or visiting with others. The solution doesn't have to be a laptop computer, which is usually priced over $1000.00, a battery drain, and a somewhat bulky system to carry around. The simple solution might lie in a simpler computer-the personal digital assistant (PDA) or the Pocket PC.
While these systems are not as complex as a laptop, they are actually functional computers, as opposed to a simple digital organizer. They are multifunctional and even come with an operating system, just as would a regular PC.
What PDA's Can Do
Uses of PDA's are as vast as a user's needs and imagination. In addition to such basic functions as calculating, clocks and calendars, PDA software is available for word processing, spread sheet application, audio or video recording, browsing the Internet and checking email, and of course, PDA games. Many handheld devices also include a PDA phone. Additionally, PDA GPSPDA cases can be used for map functionality, with a GPS receiver for local application. The Difference Between Pocket PC's and PDA's
PDA's were originally much simpler devices, serving literally as a personal digital assistant, with basic function such as calendars and calculators. However, technology improved and so did the handheld device market. Pocket PC's are a type of PDA; a handheld computer that specifically meets Microsoft's technical standards and that runs a Windows operating system. The newest operating system is Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC Phone Edition, which includes mobile phone features. Older operating systems include Windows Pocket PC 2003. There are many additional pocket PC themes and pocket PC programs available, much of which is freeware!
Manufacturers Of Handheld Computers
Palm, iPaq and Dell Axim are among the prominent Pocket PC and PDA manufacturers in the business. Depending if the system is a low-end model, (less hardware, features and power) or a high-end (everything and more) systems can range from $200.00 to $800.00. Pocket PC Magazine recently profiled the major companies and concluded, regarding which system to buy, it all depends on price and the user's needs.
It's a tough decision but be glad that now you can carry a computer in your pocket!
