One of the most important features for any portable gaming device is the quality of the games, as well as their availability.  Not only the quality but also the quantity of quality games is of primary importance.  It is speculated that although the Nintendo Game Boy in the 90s was an inferior product when compared to competing portable gaming systems like the Atari Lynx, Sega Game Gear and NEC Turbo Express, the quality and quantity of games created by third party game developers helped Nintendo sell over 200 million units.  Now in considering whether to buy a PSP (Playstation Portable) or Nintendo DS, make sure to compare the games!

Nintendo DS Games

One advantage the Nintendo DS has over the PSP portable gaming computer is that DS is compatible with cartridges for the old Game Boy Advance system.  Not only can players play new DS games, they can also continue to get their money's worth out of previously purchased games.  Nintendo DS like, Sony SPS, supports many of the top games being developed by third parties.  However, Nintendo also has some exclusive games with their DS system; some of the popular games feature trademark Nintendo characters, such as Super Mario 64, Mario Kart, Metroid Prime Hunters; other games are exclusive to the system such as Animal Crossing, Sims In The City, Madden NFL 2005 and Sudoku.

Sony PSP games

Some Sony games are likewise exclusively designed for PSP portable gaming consoles.  These include games such as Gran Turismo 4, Ridge Racer, Lumines, Metal Gear and Final Fantasy X.  However, the PSP also has an advantage over Nintendo's DS in its multimedia use.  The game system also works as a limited portable gaming laptop that can play movies and Mp3s.

Free Games And IP Technology

Both the Sony PSP and Nintendo DS also utilize wireless VoIP technology.  This allows Nintendo DS users to chat with each other and interact with their systems.  Sony PSP portable gaming devices are a little more accessible though, and they offer users not only the capability to interact but also to browse the web.

There have been many strides made in portable gaming history by such past innovators as Coleco, Milton-Bradley and Atari.  Technology continues to improve and today, the Sony PSP is clearly the better system than the Nintendo DS.  However, if Sony wishes to outsell Nintendo in portable gaming, it will have to produce a quantity of quality games.  A portable game system is not worth much without a lot of high quality games to offer.
